Saving Energy in University Housing

On- and off-campus student housing facilities consume a lot of energy, and the cost of that energy directly impacts students, schools, and property owners. In a recent EnergyCAP-hosted webinar, Melissa Kline, Founder of environmental consulting firm IMPACTenergy, described the process her firm uses to achieve energy savings in student housing.

Melissa explained how her team of licensed engineers, certified energy managers, and energy auditors work with each client to implement a custom energy reduction plan based on IMPACTenergy’s proprietary “Energy Efficiency Cycle.” The Cycle is based on straightforward objectives—save money, reduce energy consumption, and enhance occupant comfort—and includes three repeatable steps: Strategize, Implement, and Assess.

Webinar participants learned how IMPACTenergy’s “Active Energy Management” program delivers 3–7% annual utility bill savings, quick project payback, and long-term financial benefit from what Melissa termed “Efficiency Revenue.”

We greatly appreciate Melissa’s time and willingness to share her team’s expertise and recommendations via the webinar. I encourage anyone interested in reducing energy consumption in student housing to watch the webinar in its entirety HERE.
