ENERGY STAR Scoring Model Updates

ENERGY STAR’s most recent “Commercial Buildings and Industrial Plants” newsletter noted the EPA’s most recent scoring model updates and developments. The building types mentioned specifically in the newsletter include the following:

  • Hospitals: In February 2021, EPA updated the 1-100 ENERGY STAR score for U.S. hospitals to reflect new market data collected by the American Society for Health Care Engineering.
  • Medical Office Buildings: EPA is in the process of analyzing survey data and updating the 1-100 ENERGY STAR score for U.S. medical office buildings, with the goal of reinstating ENERGY STAR certification for this property type in Fall 2021.
  • Convenience Stores: In late 2020, the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) initiated a survey to collect data from convenience stores of all types to facilitate the development of an ENERGY STAR score and certification.
  • Vehicle dealerships: On Earth Day, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) launched a survey to vehicle dealerships to collect the energy and property use data necessary to develop an ENERGY STAR score and certification for dealerships.

Additional details are available on the Updates to ENERGY STAR Scores page on the ENERGYSTAR.gov website.
