Real-time alerts and alarms

With EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics™, you can view live measurements of the consumption values of monitored areas/equipment in your facilities. Set automatic alerts and alarms to flag outliers in real-time through email, SMS, and in-app.

Benefits energy monitoring alerts

The benefits of receiving alerts about the real time behavior of your systems and equipment cannot be overstated.

  • Real-time monitoring. Cost savings isn’t a theoretical value at the end of a long project when you’re able to shut off equipment that shouldn’t be running, correct patterns of overuse, and flag issues before they become costly problems as they’re happening.
  • Proactive tracking. Keep track of energy savings and progress toward project goals in real-time to easily showcase the impact of your changes.
  • Speed. Expedite response times to unexpected behaviors, so that you can adjust your operations before they impact your energy bill.
  • Reliability. Choose the communication channels that work for you. SMS is not dependent on the internet and doesn’t require you to constantly check your email or log into the platform, so you can receive notifications straight to your cell phone.

Setting up real-time alerts

There are three types of alerts in EnergyCAP SmartAnalytics:

  • Sentinel—machine learning algorithms automatically track typical consumption patterns and notify you when data is outside an expected range.
  • Custom—select the your own data point, parameters, and time frames for your notification.
  • Offline—get a notification when a data point stops receiving data.

All alerts are set up in the Notifications Settings module. To create a new notification click “New Alert” in the top right corner of the page. Choose which type of alert you want to create along with the associated time-series datapoint, customize the alert, and choose how and when you want to receive it. Alerts can be adjusted or deleted at any time.

Types of energy monitoring alerts

  • Sentinel Alerts thresholds are created automatically through the intelligence of EnergyCAP’s machine learning tool, Sentinel. Sentinel is a smart software engine that predicts what your energy use should be at any point in time for all your circuits, and continuously compares your real energy use against the predicted one to discover unusual energy performance.
  • Custom alerts allow you to define the threshold at which you’d like the alert to trigger. Start by selecting the equipment and parameter (energy, power, current, quantity, etc.) you wish to be alerted on, define the threshold, and set an alarm either as a value or “cumulated so far” against the threshold. If you choose “value against threshold” you can set the number of consecutive readings needed to trigger the notification, and the days and times when the alert is enabled.
  • Offline notifications alert you when no data is being received for a certain data point. By choosing a site, all monitored points under that site are included in the notification. You can change the amount of time a data point is offline by using the drop-down.
