Speaking Three Languages in Kentucky

blogpic1

Effective communication is a critical component of every energy management program. In a recent EnergyCAP-hosted webinar, James Bush, Program Manager of Energy Initiatives for Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG), described how EnergyCAP enables his staff to speak three languages: Facilities, Accounting, and Budgeting.

James explained that Lexington-Fayette, a city-county of nearly 324,000 residents, transitioned from a decentralized utility bill processing approach that tracked summary data in a homegrown Microsoft Access-based database to an efficient centralized operation with EnergyCAP at the core. LFUCG implemented EnergyCAP in 2010 and now relies on the application to manage more than 1,200 utility accounts. Immediate improvements—facilitated through utility account and meter verification, rate schedule “right-sizing,” and volume pricing—produced annual savings of more than $930,000 in 2012, a rapid payback on the EnergyCAP investment.

“Transparency generates trust,” James emphasized, and with EnergyCAP, “Anyone can view data and draw conclusions.” EnergyCAP is now the city-county’s “go-to source for: utility data, rate case impact, capital projects, budget forecasts, technical review, and economic analysis.”

We greatly appreciate James’s time and willingness to share his team’s energy management successes via the webinar. You can learn more about how LFUCG has benefitted from EnergyCAP, their “Rosetta Stone,” by watching the webinar in its entirety at https://www.energycap.com/resources/webinars.
