Over three days in Orlando, 130 energy managers, facilities professionals, and finance leaders from across North America joined the EnergyCAP community at Catalyst Converge 2026 for keynotes, customer sessions, and hallway conversations. It was the 20th annual EnergyCAP conference and our largest yet. Here’s a recap of what we heard on stage, what launched, what customers told us about value, and where we’re headed next.
CEO Shawn Lankton opened the conference on the first afternoon with “A CEO’s view: trends, AI, and where EnergyCAP is headed.” He covered rising utility costs, a changing grid, and how EnergyCAP Watts AI is already at work across bill processing, forecasting, and more, all built on the utility data foundation customers have trusted for more than 40 years.
Brent and Kyle Pease of the Kyle Pease Foundation kicked off the first full day with “Together We Wheel,” a keynote about brotherhood and moving forward together: a message that captures exactly what our theme, Converge, is about.
This year, ten customer and partner organizations took the stage to share how they’re putting EnergyCAP to work: NASA Kennedy Space Center, Pepperdine University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Arizona, Miami-Dade County, Lobo Energy, Inc. (The University of New Mexico), the Baltimore City Department of General Services, Fairfax County, IMEG, and Kimley-Horn.
Jonathan Haling of NASA Kennedy Space Center walked through how his team is tackling complex allocation challenges across a massive federal utility portfolio. Keith Coelho of the University of Central Florida shared how his team moved from manual monthly reads to reliable interval data across six utility plants and more than 700 meters. Two very different portfolios, one common thread: better data leads to better decisions.
Our founder, Steve Heinz, joined a panel of facility and energy leaders from Pepperdine University, Lobo Energy (The University of New Mexico), and Baltimore City for a conversation about the next wave of technology in facilities operations, including AI, and how facility and energy pros decide what’s actually worth adopting and when.
The biggest announcement of the week was EnergyCAP Insights, the next expansion after Watts AI and Watts chat earlier this year. Insights makes complex utility data easier and faster to work with, and it brings three capabilities directly into EnergyCAP: Watts reports, which turn plain language requests into ad hoc reports you can refine, save, rerun, and share; Watts alerts, which let you choose what is brought to your attention and how you’re notified when it happens; and the Signals dashboard, which ranks key issues and priorities by impact so your team knows where to focus first.

Hallway conversations turned into problem-solving sessions, and the room carried real momentum about where energy management is headed.
